Real Madrid Defender Raul Asencio Set for Surgery and Could Miss 2–4 Months
Real Madrid defender Raul Asencio is set to undergo surgery after suffering a stress fracture in the front part of his right foot.
The Spanish defender will undergo the procedure on Thursday, with Real Madrid confirming that surgery is required to fully treat the injury.
According to reports in the Spanish media, Asencio could face between two and four months on the sidelines if his recovery progresses as expected.
The defender has struggled with injuries since the beginning of the season. A muscle problem kept him out of Real Madrid’s squad for the first five matches of the campaign.
Although Asencio returned to the squad for the club’s last three La Liga matches, he did not feature in any of them and remained on the bench throughout.
Asencio made 34 appearances for Real Madrid across all competitions last season. However, he lost his place in the starting XI during the final three months of the campaign.
Real Madrid already have several options at centre-back, with Ibrahima Konate and Dean Huijsen reportedly among Jose Mourinho’s preferred choices this season. Antonio Rudiger also remains part of the defensive group.
Another key defender, Eder Militao, has been sidelined since April after undergoing surgery, adding to Real Madrid’s defensive injury concerns.
Asencio will now begin his recovery after Thursday’s procedure, with his potential return expected to depend on how the rehabilitation progresses over the coming months.
