Starc Surpasses McGrath to Make Test History
Mitchell Starc has moved past Australian legend Glenn McGrath to create a new milestone in Test cricket. The left-arm fast bowler has become the fastest bowler in history to reach 450 Test wickets in terms of deliveries bowled. He is also the first left-arm bowler ever to claim 450 wickets in Test cricket.
Starc reached the landmark on the third day of the Test between Australia and South Africa in Gqeberha. During the first session, he dismissed Wiaan Mulder to claim his 450th Test wicket, with Matt Renshaw completing an excellent catch off his bowling.
The dismissal allowed Starc to break one of McGrath's long-standing records. McGrath needed 23,474 deliveries to reach 450 Test wickets, while Starc reached the same mark in just 20,577 balls.
That means Starc achieved the milestone after bowling 2,897 fewer deliveries than one of Australia's greatest-ever fast bowlers.
Ahead of Akram and Herath
Starc's achievement is even more significant among left-arm bowlers. Pakistan legend Wasim Akram finished his Test career with 414 wickets, while Sri Lanka's legendary left-arm spinner Rangana Herath claimed 433.
Starc has now moved beyond both of them to become the leading left-arm wicket-taker in Test cricket. More importantly, he has become the first left-arm bowler in Test history to reach 450 wickets.

Fourth Australian in the 450-Wicket Club
The 450-wicket club remains an exclusive one in Australian Test history. Before Starc, only three Australian bowlers had reached the landmark—Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath and Nathan Lyon.
Starc is now the fourth Australian bowler to join that elite group.
And he did not stop at 450. In the final session of the third day, Starc dismissed South African captain Temba Bavuma, taking his Test tally to 451 wickets.
At 36, Starc has added another remarkable chapter to his career. His latest achievement is not merely another personal record; it represents a historic moment for left-arm fast bowling in Test cricket.
After years of chasing the standards set by legends such as McGrath, Starc has now moved beyond one of Australia's greatest fast bowlers and secured his own place among the game's elite.
