Lionel Messi’s farewell jersey has found a place at the River Plate museum, preserving a memorable chapter of the Argentine superstar’s international career. More than a piece of football clothing, the No. 10 shirt represents years of achievement, emotion and the love of millions of fans.

Some football moments never truly end. The celebrations eventually fade, the stadium lights go out, and the crowds return home. Yet the memories created by legendary players live on across generations. Messi’s farewell jersey is one such lasting symbol.

After a 21-year journey with Argentina’s national team, Messi brought his international career to a close with records that underline his remarkable contribution. He finished with 208 appearances and 126 goals for his country. Following his farewell match, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner gifted his No. 10 jersey to River Plate, adding a personal message of affection. The shirt was later placed in the club’s museum.

Argentina’s 3-0 victory over Benin made the occasion especially memorable. Messi scored from the penalty spot in the 71st minute, adding a goal to an emotional farewell. In front of more than 85,000 spectators, the atmosphere was filled with tears, cheers and affection for one of the greatest players in the history of the game.

The match also saw Messi contribute to all three of Argentina’s goals. Nicolás Otamendi opened the scoring in the 48th minute from a corner delivered by Messi. In the 61st minute, Messi also played a role in Nico Paz’s spectacular curling finish from outside the penalty area, with the young Argentine finding the net with a left-footed strike.

With a goal of his own and contributions to his teammates’ efforts, Messi made his farewell appearance an occasion to remember.

Although the jersey is now preserved behind museum displays, Messi’s legacy cannot be confined to a glass case. His magical left foot, goal celebrations and moments of joy shared with teammates will continue to live in the memories of fans around the world.

The shirt displayed at the River Plate museum is therefore more than a sporting keepsake. It is a lasting tribute to an extraordinary career and an emotional chapter in football history.
