Cristiano Ronaldo Faces Provisional Portugal Suspension After Leaving Team Camp

Cristiano Ronaldo could face disciplinary action after leaving Portugal’s national team camp following a disagreement with head coach Jorge Jesus. Reports say a provisional suspension has been triggered under Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) rules, although the final duration of any ban has yet to be determined.

According to reports by the British press, the federation’s disciplinary regulations allow a suspension of between one and six months for leaving the national team camp without permission. The FPF’s disciplinary council is expected to determine the final punishment.

Ronaldo’s public apology and his long record of service to Portugal could be considered when the disciplinary panel decides on the sanction. Goal.com, citing ESPN, reported that the potential suspension could range from one to six months. However, the final length of the ban has not been confirmed. <Cite refs={["turn972891search1","turn972891search3"]}/>

If the suspension lasts longer than a month, the 41-year-old forward could miss Portugal’s upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures against Denmark and Wales in November.

The dispute reportedly began over Ronaldo’s expected playing time. He remained an unused substitute during Portugal’s 2-1 Nations League victory over Norway. Jesus later indicated that Ronaldo would not start the next match against Denmark, after which the Portugal captain left the team camp.

In a subsequent statement, Ronaldo said an understanding with the coach had not been followed as expected. He also expressed regret over his actions and apologised to his teammates and supporters. The forward made clear that he remained willing to represent Portugal after serving any punishment, provided he was physically fit and performing well at club level.

Jesus, meanwhile, has said the door remains open for Ronaldo’s return. Portuguese Football Federation president Pedro Proença has also reportedly described the episode as a misunderstanding that could be resolved internally.

For now, Ronaldo’s potential punishment remains under review. The final outcome will depend on the decision of the federation’s disciplinary authorities.
