Glenn Phillips Century Helps New Zealand End India’s Winning Run

New Zealand finally stopped India’s winning run in the ongoing T20I series as Glenn Phillips smashed a stunning century and Jacob Duffy produced a brilliant spell in Auckland. The hosts defeated India by 87 runs in the fourth T20I, although India still lead the five-match series 3–1 after winning the first three games.

After being asked to bat first, New Zealand posted 259 for 7 in 20 overs—their highest-ever T20I total. Their previous best was 254 for 5 against Scotland in Edinburgh in 2022. The 259 is also the highest T20I total against India.

Phillips and Bracewell Power New Zealand

Glenn Phillips was the star of New Zealand’s innings. Batting at No. 4, he smashed 107 off just 49 balls, including six fours and 10 sixes.

Michael Bracewell provided equally destructive support. The pair added 115 runs for the fifth wicket from only 41 deliveries. Bracewell scored 65 off 25 balls, hitting four fours and six sixes.

Their explosive partnership completely changed the momentum of the innings and pushed New Zealand beyond the 250-run mark.

India Collapse Early

India’s chase got off to a disastrous start. Jacob Duffy dismissed Sanju Samson with the second ball of the innings before removing Ishan Kishan with the fifth delivery.

India never recovered from the early blows. They eventually finished on 172 for 9 in 20 overs, with Tilak Varma top-scoring with 35. Naman Dhir made 28 and Abhishek Sharma added 27.

Duffy was the pick of New Zealand’s bowlers, finishing with four wickets for 23 runs from his four overs. Mitchell Santner and Matthew Fisher claimed two wickets each.

New Zealand End 10-Match Home Losing Streak

The 87-run victory also ended New Zealand’s embarrassing run of 10 consecutive T20I defeats against India on home soil.

India, however, remain in control of the series at 3–1. The fifth and final T20I will be played on Sunday, with New Zealand looking to finish the series on a winning note.
