Barcelona Thrash Real Betis 5-2 as Lamine Yamal Leads La Liga Rout

Match Report: Barcelona continued their impressive La Liga campaign with a commanding 5-2 victory over Real Betis away from home. Lamine Yamal opened the scoring with a brilliant finish, while Rodri, Gabriel Jesus, Eric Garcia and Dani Olmo also found the net for Hansi Flick’s side. Despite scoring twice, Betis struggled to contain Barcelona’s attacking quality and were reduced to 10 men in the second half.

Lamine Yamal Sets Barcelona on Their Way

Barcelona started aggressively and took the lead in the 10th minute through Lamine Yamal. Receiving a short pass from Jules Kounde, the young Spanish winger moved into the right side of the penalty area, beat a defender with a clever body feint and fired a trademark left-footed shot into the far corner.

Real Betis responded with determination and equalised in the 27th minute. After Barcelona failed to clear a corner, Pablo Fornals delivered a cross from the right, allowing Argentine centre-back Valentin Gomez to head home from close range.

Betis nearly took the lead in the 39th minute when Hector Bellerin unleashed a powerful effort, but Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia produced an excellent save.

Barcelona regained the advantage just two minutes later. Fermin Lopez delivered a corner, and Rodri rose above the defence to score with a header. It was the Spanish midfielder’s first goal for Barcelona since joining the Catalan club from Manchester City.

Gabriel Jesus and Eric Garcia Extend the Lead

Barcelona continued to create chances after the interval. Gabriel Jesus initially thought he had scored, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside. The Brazilian forward did not have to wait long, however, as he found the net in the following minute after receiving a pass from Yamal.

The visitors were now two goals ahead, but Betis quickly reduced the deficit. Abde Ezzalzouli produced a precise finish from the edge of the penalty area to make it 3-2 and bring the home supporters back to life.

The match then became heated following a challenge on Yamal in midfield. After protests and a confrontation between players, the referee showed a red card to Betis defensive midfielder Facundo Bernal, while Yamal received a yellow card. The dismissal left Betis with 10 players for the remainder of the contest.

Barcelona capitalised on their numerical advantage. Betis goalkeeper Valles failed to deal with a free-kick delivered into the six-yard area. Pau Cubarsi directed the ball towards goal, allowing Eric Garcia to finish into an unguarded net and restore Barcelona’s two-goal cushion.

Dani Olmo Seals a Comfortable Victory

With the result increasingly secure, Flick substituted Yamal in the 70th minute, bringing on Raphinha, who had returned from injury.

Barcelona continued to threaten and eventually scored their fifth goal in the 81st minute. Dani Olmo unleashed a powerful shot from outside the penalty area, leaving the Betis goalkeeper with little chance of making a save.

There were no further goals, and Barcelona completed an emphatic 5-2 away victory.

Barcelona Strengthen Their Position at the Top

The victory took Barcelona to 27 points from nine matches, maintaining their perfect league record and strengthening their position at the top of the La Liga standings. Atletico Madrid remained five points behind, while Real Betis had 19 points in third place. Real Madrid sat fourth with 18 points from one fewer match.

Yamal also ended his recent scoring drought with a memorable performance. The winger took his La Liga tally to eight goals, while his combined goals and assists across all competitions reached nine each.

Barcelona will look to carry their momentum into Tuesday’s Champions League clash against reigning European champions Paris Saint-Germain. A crucial La Liga meeting with rivals Real Madrid awaits the following weekend, giving Flick’s side another major test in their pursuit of domestic and European success.
