Guyana Amazon Warriors Clinch Consecutive Global Super League Championships
Guyana Amazon Warriors successfully defended their Global Super League title with a dramatic six-run victory over San Francisco Unicorns in a thrilling final at Providence Stadium. After electing to bat first, the hosts suffered a disastrous start and were reduced to 29 for 8 by the Unicorns’ relentless pace attack. Dwaine Pretorius and Matthew Forde then produced a crucial lower-order fightback, helping Guyana recover to 85 all out in 18.5 overs.
In reply, San Francisco lost an early wicket but gradually moved into a strong position at 53 for 3, with Ollie Peake playing a composed innings. Just when the chase seemed under control, Mohammad Nabi and captain Imran Tahir turned the match around with a brilliant spell of spin bowling. Their pressure triggered a collapse that left the Unicorns struggling for runs and wickets.
Despite some late resistance from Peter Siddle, San Francisco were eventually bowled out for 79 in 18.3 overs. Guyana’s outstanding bowling and fielding effort helped them defend a total of only 85 and secure back-to-back Global Super League titles on home soil. Matthew Forde was named Player of the Match for his valuable all-round contribution in the final.
